I like this video. I do. However.
The title of the video is mistaken. The title should be “Shit White, Upper Middle Class Yuppy Northsiders Say”. And that demographic is nowhere near all-encompassing for the term “Chicagoans”. Richard Wright is probably rolling in his grave over this video. The most ridiculous part was when they act confused about train lines other than the Red, Blue and Brown lines. “Where does the Green line even go?” The most they know about the Green Line is the Goose Island draught. Well, the green and orange lines actually go to less privileged parts of the city not populated by white yuppies, so yeah, that’s why you’re not familiar with them.
I’m not trying to invalidate the video or anything, just trying to step back and check my own privilege and get others to do the same. I think it’s funny. I also think it excludes a huge portion of Chicagoans and throws into relief that we are the most sharply segregated city in the United States.
