the best parts of 2011; january to august

this has been sitting in my drafts for TOO LONG now so i’m just going to publish it! it’s not complete but i might finish it later. inside the jump are photos from my year; some you’ve seen, some you haven’t.

in february, we had an epic snowstorm. it was super fun until i had to dig my car out in order to get a mandatory emissions test. imagine days and days of snow plows creating a mighty snow wall against my car.

.

i made a cool hex nut bracelet. (along with the rest of the internet)

.

.

in april i went to argentina for work. i didn’t have much time off, but i still had an incredible time. argentina! for free! the absolute best part of my job. i lucked out and had a room with a huge terrace.

.

.

in may, more work travel. spent two weeks in LA. got to stay at my favorite hotel

.

.

then i flew back to chicago, and the next day we adopted a tator tot.

.

.

.

in june we took a weekend trip to new york for alan’s birthday. let’s talk about that VIEW from our hotel room.

.

.

then i visited erin in washington. we did very important things. it was practically a business trip.

.

.

i ran a 10k like a boss.

in august i went back to LA for work. santa monica is so great. to visit, at least. i stayed here for the remaining 2 weeks before my half marathon, something i’d trained for for 5 months. but instead of doing 2 more long (and several short) runs, i only ran once. just 6 miles. i was mad at running because it was deforming my foot. it was causing the bone in my right foot to shift. you can actually see it, a bruise on the bone area of my right foot, in the nail polish photo if you scroll up (i have the orange toenail polish). i didn’t notice it at the time, but now that i look at that photo, i’m all ohhhh yep there was the beginning. for vanity reasons, i was annoyed. and i was lazy. i contemplated not running the half.

.

.

but then i decided to do it anyway. and i was really glad i did it. sidenote: alan got a lot of shit for that sign. from runners. haha. i liked it.

.

.

and one day later, i paid for that LA slacking. it’s called “cuboid syndrome” and i still don’t quite understand it, but my cuboid bone was subluxed. zzzzz. all we need to know is, i increased my mileage way too fast by going from slacker city in the 2 weeks leading to the race, to running 13.1 miles. oh well.
